We were on radio row this week talking to a lot of players and coaches, and even got a one-on-one interview with Bill Belichick on Friday morning. We have a few different topics that we’ve been banging around with people this week that we touch on in this week’s roundtable.
First is the 49ers hiring of John Lynch as their GM. It’s certainly a risky move given his inexperience, but he has a relationship with Kyle Shanahan. Make no mistake, this is not John Elway reincarnated. Elway got scouoting knowledge from his dad and earned his stripes in the arena league. Still, this can work if he has some experienced personnel people around him.
The idea of Tony Romo going to Denver continues to gain momentum. We think it’s a workable idea. You can keep the youong guys as a buffer to injury, or if you have to get rid of one at the end of camp, trade Siemian, and they will have a re-make of the Manning-Osweiler scenario with Romo and Paxton Lynch.
We think it’s time to get rid of the Pro Bowl. We also like the idea of underclassmen who come out for the draft and don’t sign with an agent or take money, and go undrafted, being able to go back to school. It makes sense for all involved.
Finally, Bill Belichick didn’t seem overeconfident, but he seemed relaxed in our talk. He really likes and trusts his team, and feels he has leaders in key spots on both sides of the ball. Does experience play a factor in these types of games? It can, but at the end of the day, execution wins every time.
