Well, we’re down in Mobile, Alabama at the Senior Bowl and it was fun to get an early look at the QB’s who are down here.
The first guy we have to talk about is Nate Peterman out of Pitt. He’s the highest rated passer down here. I see him as a west coast style QB. He has good size and he can move pretty well, and he looks to me like a rhythm and timing kind of thrower, and that showed on day one.
Tennessee’s Josh Dobbs is more of a dual threat QB. I like his arm, and he’s got some pop in his throws, but he has been inconsistent throwing the ball, and that may limit his ceiling. Colorado’s Sefo Liufau is another QB here that struggles with inconsistency, and he has a different motion that hurts his mechanics, but he’s a good athlete who can move, and was extremely productive for the Buffs, passing for over 10,000 career yards.
CJ Beathard of Iowa can run and play-action the ball, and Antonio Pipkin out of tiny Tiffin College is a really good athlete who makes plays outside the pocket, but he’ll have to adjust to the level of competition and it may be an uphill battle for him.
Cal’s Davis Webb has really grown on me. At 6-5, 230, he’s the biggest QB here, and he has a lot of elasticity in his shoulder, which creates some nice whip when he throws the ball. He’s a guy I’ll continue to watch this week.
Day one threr are usually a lot of overthrows and blown plays as these QB’s try to build some chemistry with their receivers and they learn the playbook. The accuracy usually starts to improve over the course of the week, so it will be interesting to see that develop in the coming days.Add to My RFN
