Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator is one in a long line of aggressive DC’s who have come out of Baltimore. Marvin Lewis, Rex Ryan, and Chuck Pagano are just a few who came before him. They, like every coach, have their “go-to” calls. For Pees, when he needs a play down in the red zone, he likes to make a “Blitz ‘0’” call. He did it in the Super Bowl a few years ago against the 49ers, and he used it on Monday night against the Patriots, except Tom Brady and company were ready for it.
The Ravens used the call twice in the 2nd quarter. This play I’ve drawn out came on 3rd & Goal from the Ravens 6-yard line. New England had seen “Blitz ‘0’” on 2nd down and thrown incomplete. They expected it again on 3rd down and ran this play. Brady did a lot of work identifying the defense in his pre-snap read, spread out his receivers, and then signaled a hot read for Malcolm Mitchell, who executed the play beautifully.
Check out the video as I walk you through the set up and the play itself. Denver plays a lot of man coverage, and you could see some form of this again this weekend.Add to My RFN
