All of us here at the Real Football Network are excited to be escaping to the Margaritaville state of mind every Saturday to bring you a unique new content feature called Margaritaville Football. As Jimmy Buffett’s tour traveled across the country this year, production coordinator Heikki Larsen sat down with football personalities to talk sports, music, living the Margaritaville lifestyle and more.
We kicked things off earlier this season with former Super Bowl champion coach and current ESPN Monday Night Football analyst Jon Gruden. Since then, we’ve had a veritable who’s who of NFL and college football elites including JJ Watt, Cris Collinsworth, Urban Meyer, Tennessee Titans Mike Mularkey and Taylor Lewan, Bengals OL coach Paul Alexander, Falcons Head Coach Dan Quinn, and most recently, Sports Illustrated’s Peter King (you can link to ALL the podcasts below). This week, Heikki wraps up the series with ESPN Fantasy Football Expert Matthew Berry.
Matthew is a proud, “crazed Parrothead”! He saw his first show in Irvine, CA and was a complete Margaritaville virgin. He listened to a friend’s mix tape, went to the show, and he was hooked. He explains that at some point between, “fins to the left” and “Why Don’t We Get Drunk” he said to his friend, ” I get it.” That was 26 shows ago! He talks about the experience and lifestyle of Margaritaville. To go to a Buffett show is an all day event, not just a concert. He talked about tailgating and people watching, about the start of his writing career on “Married With Children” to his gig as the “Mel Kiper of Fantasy” with ESPN. He also worked for George Carlin when he first graduated college. But to hear his whole story, listen to the podcast!
