All of us here at the Real Football Network are excited to be escaping to the Margaritaville state of mind every Saturday to bring you a unique new content feature called Margaritaville Football. As Jimmy Buffett’s tour traveled across the country this year, production coordinator Heikki Larsen sat down with football personalities to talk sports, music, living the Margaritaville lifestyle and more.
We opened the program over a month ago with former Super Bowl champion coach and current ESPN Monday Night Football analyst Jon Gruden. Since then, we’ve had a whole cast of NFL and college football elites including JJ Watt, Cris Collinsworth, Urban Meyer, Tennessee Titans Mike Mularkey and Taylor Lewan, Bengals OL coach Paul Alexander, and Falcons Head Coach Dan Quinn (you can link to ALL the podcasts below). This week, we take you along on Heikki’s visit to Denver where he sits down with Broncos DE Billy Winn.
Heikki spoke with Billy on a lot of topics. On the football side, he’s appreciative of the way the Denver Broncos organization takes care of their players, and he spoke about his bond with his teammates, like Jared Crick, who he’s known since HS. He also talked about the value of being in the locker room with such a proven, veteran group of players, and learning how to be a pro from players like Aqib Talib and Chris Harris. During their chat, we also learned that he was a journalism major at Boise State and tries to “put everything down on paper”. He’s also a devoted Cleveland Indians fan (no bandwagon fans here folks, he’s a lifer!) since the days of “Major League”!! He was a well-rounded athlete growing up, and ran track and loved skateboarding. In fact, his goal is to one day open a board shop! His favorite city to play in is Houston, his favorite city to visit is Nashville…and this is a guy who grew up in Las Vegas! He’s also a regular listener to Margaritaville Radio, which makes him a favorite of ours. And food, well, who better to ask than a 310-pound lineman with a dad who’s a chef at The Golden Nugget?! He has to eat steak at least once a week, and his favorite cheeseburger is injected with ketchup and bleu cheese…and that’s just the beginning! You’ll have to listen to the podcast to get the whole story – and you can only find it here, exclusively at realfootballnetwork.com.
