The Minnesota Vikings defense is playing as well as any unit in the history of the game right now – literally. They are dominating in every sense of the word. With elite athletes at every level of the defense, and a brilliant defensive mind like Mike Zimmer at the helm, it’s little surprise.
The Vikings play a base 4-3 scheme. A lot of teams around the league play in a similar system, some are multiple in nature and use some of the 4-3 concepts, and even 3-4 teams will get into a 4-3 look when playing in sub-packages, which in today’s NFL can be up to 70% of the time in some cases. But the Vikings have perfected it, so I thought this would be a good opportunity to show you some work my friend Bill Cowher and I did on the X’s & O’s Glass Board, explaining the fundamentals of the 4-3.
Watch the video, then watch the games this weekend and see if you can recognize some of the concepts mentioned here. Obvious 3rd down passing situations are always a good place to start.Add to My RFN
